Weekly Groups for Spellers
Chicagoland Spelling Center is proud to offer weekly social groups designed for individuals who spell to communicate. Guided by our group manager, Louie DeMarco, each session is thoughtfully tailored to the unique needs and strengths of its participants, creating a supportive and engaging space for connection and growth.
On Thursdays, Chicagoland Spelling Center offers a discussion-based group for teens and young adults. This space is designed for open spellers who want to connect with peers through thoughtful and engaging conversations. Each session explores a wide range of topics, including current events, creative expression, self-exploration, and more. The goal is to provide spellers with opportunities to share ideas, build community, and practice communication skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.
On Fridays, the center hosts an alternating-format group for teens and young adults. Every other week, the first session focuses on a lesson exploring a specific topic, and the following session features an activity connected to that lesson, often in the form of a craft, game, or project. This paired approach allows spellers to not only learn but also apply and enjoy the material in a hands-on way. The group is designed to be welcoming and flexible, making it a great fit for spellers of all experience levels, from beginners to those with more practice, while still encouraging creativity, social interaction, and growth.
